In the 2024/25 financial year, Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) allocated an average of 6% of its total procurement spend to youth-owned businesses and suppliers, while an additional R62-million was invested on various development programmes for young employees.

“It has always been important for TPT to empower the youth because, in our view, our efforts today increase the rate at which we witness positive change in both our sector and in the entirety of South Africa,” says TPT chief procurement officer Bhekani Cele.

Yearly, TPT says, it focuses on creating opportunities for companies owned by youth, women and persons with disabilities.

Also, over 270 youth who have studied IT, supply chain, commerce, human resources, communications, engineering and gained skills to be electricians, millwrights, boilermakers and fitters, are currently located across TPT undergoing structured learning programmes.

TPT further sponsored 191 youth employees with bursaries, valued at R8-million, to attain qualifications, the entity highlights.

“All available opportunities that the company offers are available on our Web platform and we often encourage people through our social media platforms to visit our website,” says Cele, cautioning those wishing to participate in these offers to not fall victim to scams.

He informs that no tenders or jobs are ever for sale and advises that any correspondence from a legitimate employee representing the company will use an email address ending with @transnet.net.
